Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth and Sports, and Major General Dr. Mohamed Salama, First Undersecretary of the Administrative Control Authority, took part in a high-level dialogue session titled “Governance and Anti-Corruption,” held as part of the fifth edition of the Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership. The program is organized under the esteemed patronage of H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and in partnership with the United Nations, under the theme:“Egypt and the United Nations: 80 Years of Representing Global South Issues.” Running from May 10 to 25, the fellowship brings together 150 youth leaders from across executive sectors, alongside active and influential figures from civil society organizations around the globe.

In his remarks, Dr. Sobhy emphasized that good governance and anti-corruption are foundational pillars of Egypt’s national sustainable development strategy, adding that the fellowship plays a vital role in empowering young leaders with the knowledge and tools needed to promote integrity and transparency within their communities.

He noted that the partnership with the United Nations reflects Egypt’s commitment to international standards in governance, and serves as a platform for the exchange of best practices and success stories worldwide. Dr. Sobhy stressed that the fight against corruption must be pursued through a comprehensive national system, engaging government institutions, civil society, and the private sector.

He urged participating youth to make the most of this enriching experience and to become ambassadors for transparency and accountability in their home countries. He also highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to instilling values of integrity and fairness among younger generations, laying the foundation for a just and equitable future.

The session was moderated by Dr. Hussein El-Basyouni and featured in-depth discussions by Major General Dr. Mohamed Salama, who also serves as Advisor to the Chairman of the Administrative Control Authority for the National Academy for Combating Corruption. He explained that anti-corruption efforts are critical to advancing Egypt’s sustainable development goals, noting that the Authority operates through structured mechanisms and strategic plans to implement the National Anti-Corruption Strategy.

He also highlighted the Academy’s role as a leading training and research institution, sharing that over 2,600 training activities have been conducted since 2018, benefiting more than 109,000 trainees, and graduating 254 professionals specialized in governance and corruption prevention.

Mr. Emad Zaghlaf, member of the Administrative Control Authority and Head of the Technical Secretariat of the National Coordinating Subcommittee for Combating Corruption, stressed the importance of enhancing international cooperation in anti-corruption, asserting that cross-border knowledge exchange helps develop more effective tools to address corruption and its consequences. He noted that Egypt was among the first countries to join international conventions in this domain, signing the first global anti-corruption treaty in 2003 and officially ratifying it in 2005.

Mr. Ayman Abou El-Ella, member of the Administrative Control Authority and Assistant to the President of the African Union of Anti-Corruption Authorities, concluded the session by outlining the Authority’s central role in supporting good governance across Africa. He emphasized that Egypt’s National Anti-Corruption Strategy provides a holistic and actionable framework for combating corruption through realistic implementation mechanisms and accountability structures.
