Minister of Youth and Sports Meets High-Level Comorian Delegation to Discuss Enhanced Cooperation in Youth and Sports

As part of the official visit of His Excellency President Azali Assoumani, President of the Union of the Comoros, to Egypt, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth and Sports, held a meeting with a high-level delegation from the Comoros. The delegation included Mr. Mbay Mohamed, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Mr. Mohamed Ismail, President of the Comorian Olympic Committee.
The meeting came within the framework of the strong and enduring fraternal ties between Egypt and the Union of the Comoros, and focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fields of youth and sports. Discussions included the potential for Egypt to provide technical and logistical support, along with sharing its expertise in hosting and organizing international sporting events. This is particularly relevant in light of Comoros’ aspiration to host the 2027 Indian Ocean Island Games.
Dr. Sobhy emphasized the deep-rooted historical relationship between the two countries and affirmed Egypt’s unwavering commitment to supporting its African partners. Under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Egypt continues to extend the hand of cooperation across the continent, driven by a shared vision of unity, development, and prosperity.
“Sport is a powerful bridge that strengthens relations between nations,” Dr. Sobhy stated. “Egypt is fully committed to sharing its expertise and capabilities with its brothers in Comoros, and to working together to elevate African sport and fulfill the aspirations of our youth throughout the continent.”
The Comorian delegation expressed its appreciation for Egypt’s leading role in Africa and conveyed their eagerness to benefit from Egypt’s experience in building advanced sports infrastructure and organizing continental and global championships. The upcoming Games, they noted, will feature 18 sporting events, including key team and individual sports such as basketball, handball, swimming, taekwondo, and football.
The meeting concluded with both sides affirming the importance of continued dialogue and coordination to develop concrete mechanisms for implementing proposed youth and sports cooperation programs in the near future.
