Under the Patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and in Partnership with the United Nations: Minister of Youth and Sports Attends Opening Session of the Fifth Edition of the Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership

Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth and Sports, attended the opening session of the fifth edition of the Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership, held under the generous patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and in partnership with the United Nations. This year's edition is being organized under the theme: "Egypt and the United Nations: 80 Years of Representing the Issues of the Global South."
In his remarks, Dr. Sobhy welcomed the participants and affirmed that Egypt has become a global hub for youth from all sectors and backgrounds. He described the Nasser Fellowship as a flagship initiative that brings together youth leaders from across the world and has become a recognized model for international youth cooperation.
He noted that the fellowship serves as one of the key mechanisms for implementing the directives of President El-Sisi, particularly in empowering young African leaders and enabling them to formulate a unified and inclusive vision that addresses global challenges and supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He also emphasized the importance of building awareness and disseminating knowledge on political and diplomatic affairs, with the fellowship serving as a platform for education and intellectual exchange.
The session featured a keynote address by Lieutenant General Dr. Samir Farag, a military and strategic expert, titled: "United Nations Resolutions and International Peace and Security: Insights into the Middle East." Dr. Farag addressed contemporary regional crises, the evolving nature of modern warfare including fourth and fifth-generation conflicts, and the role of awareness-building in navigating complex global dynamics.
The session was attended by several high-level officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, including Major General Ismail El-Far, Assistant Minister for Youth Affairs and Government Relations; Dr. Khaled Masoud, Head of the Youth Sector; Alaa Desouky, Undersecretary and Head of the Central Administration for Youth Development; and Hassan Ghazali, Director of the Global South Youth Office.
The fifth edition of the Nasser Fellowship aims to showcase Egypt’s experience in state-building and institutional development while promoting international youth dialogue, particularly within the framework of the United Nations. The program also focuses on the role of youth and women in peacebuilding, security, volunteerism, and South-South cooperation. It seeks to enhance youth understanding of the UN's role in supporting the Global South and promoting international justice.
Running from May 10 to 25, the fellowship brings together 150 youth leaders from diverse executive fields and active civil society participants representing countries from around the globe.
